VOLUME-ONE is a simple software for viewing volumetric image data such as X-ray CT and MRI. VOLUME-ONE stores a multi-channel volume data set in the main memory and displays the data in multiple sections and in projective images based on volume rendering method, etc.
VOLUME-ONE is based on the OpenGL of graphic library and the GTK+ (GIMP toolkit) of graphical user interface development toolkit. Currently, Win32 version is released and UNIX version will be available in the near future.
VOLUME-ONE has an extensible architecture so that users can develop their own extension software (called plugin or client) based on inter-process communication technology which is found in most operating systems. Such programs of VOLUME-ONE plugin can communicate with VOLUME-ONE by sending/receiving volume data, cursor position, VOI (volume-of-interest) and graphic objects (polygons, lines, etc.).
VOLUME-ONE is a software free to download, free to use, and free to re-distribute (all for non-commercial use). In addition, VOLUME-ONE is going to be an open source software in the near future. A client development kit (CDE) will be released in the summer 2002*.
